Ivanovs in jury of Fotokvartals magazine

The biggest Latvian photo magazine Fotokvartal declares the photo competition NUDE closed. The contest took place from Dec 22, 2011 until Jan 9, 2012. The distinguished jury contained photo professional Mr Gunārs Binde (b. 1933) and painter Mr Ritums Ivanovs.


Altogether 92 photos were submitted, out of which Linda Ratuta photo "Tikai nesaki man neko" ("Just don't say anything", see above) was declared best. Spīgana with his work "Pieskāriens" ("Touch") gained the second place. All other entries can be viewed on magazine website.

FK is a web-based magazine writing on Latvian and international photography with the main interest area in contemporary documentary photography. FK was launched in January 2011 and is the successor of the hard-copy magazine Foto Kvartals (2006-2010). FK’s aim is to create a discourse about the narrative and various contexts of photography, in order to recognize the diversity of photography’s functions as the most available and prevalent medium today. FK is due to issue a printed version once a year in attempt to celebrate the best Latvian documentary photography today.

Our English version was launched on September 19th, 2011, and it mainly contains materials from our Latvian version that relate to photography in Latvia, our neighboring states and Nordic countries.
