Amy, Kate, Gaga in Riga Gallery until Jan. 14

We are glad to announce that Ritums Ivanovs new and retrospective works will be shown on the two floors of Riga Gallery in the centre of Riga, capital of Latvia. This month the painter's new works participated at the international art fair Art Moscow (Russia). The paintings that got excellent feedback in Moscow can now be seen at Aspazijas Bulv. 20, Riga. This time, the artist has experimented with dark blue colour and instead of acrylic paint has used oil on canvas. See the selection of paintings until January 14, 2012.

In his newest exhibition, Ritums Ivanovs continues exploring individual features of the stars of showbusiness and characters created by mass media. He has chosen quite different personalities like Amy Winehouse, Kate Moss and Lady Gaga, and the works shown are from years 2010 and 2011.

The phenomenon of "stars" excites this Latvian painter, but not only: in German film maker Nicola Graef's 2010 film "Kate! Creating an Icon" (first view in march 2011 in French TV-channel Arte), some most intense and important artists of the world were interviewed on the topic that have painted and photographed Kate Moss, hence uplifting the image of Moss as an Icon – Chuck Close, Lucian Freud, Banksy, Wolfgang Tillman, Peter Lindbergh...

The film also features portraits of Moss painted by Ivanovs.

The author of the German documentary Nicola Graef noticed the portrait of Kate Moss mastered by Ivanovs in Berlin's Eva Poll Gallery when he held his solo show "Trade Mark Beauty" there. The authors interviewed in film attempt reveal Moss's phenomenon, analysing her personality, its correspondance to modern era and also the role of the artist in visualising the era.

Opening of Ritums Ivanovs exhibition took place November 24 at 6 PM in Riga Gallery, Latvia.
