Magdalena’s Land. Spain

"Magdalena’s Land" is an intimate arthouse drama about memory, lost love, artistic sacrifice and the choice between safe life and real life. The film follows Magdalena, a woman who once lived through art, photography and imagination, but chose a quieter and safer existence. When Mark, her former lover and creative partner, returns after forty years, the world they once created together begins to reappear.

Set in the landscapes of Andalusia, the film moves between reality, memory and imagination. It asks whether we can truly escape our deepest self, and whether beauty can return after years of silence. The film stars acclaimed Latvian actress Rēzija Kalniņa and brings together an international cast, including actors from Gibraltar, Gaucín and the local community, whose presence gives the film its living connection to this place.

For "Magdalena’s Land", Ivanovs worked as art director, helping to shape the film’s visual identity. In this exhibition, he returns to the film not as decoration, but as a second act of creation. From 8 May, the renowned Latvian artist and the film’s art director creates large-scale works inspired by "Magdalena’s Land".
Visitors are welcome to watch the creative process, meet the artist and talk to him. Exhibition open to the public:
