Contemporary Art Festival Artefora
Ritums Ivanovs has been invited to participate in an international contemporary art festival Artefora in the Turin area of Italy that takes place from June 21 to July 20. This is the first time that Latvia has been invited to the festival, thanks to the curators' choice of international focal points for the project. Latvian artists have been selected by Artefora President Ernesto Morales to exhibit in the Barbaresco Museum tower. The festival's theme is 'The Hill Always Rises', addressing philosophical questions such as the permanent and the ever-changing, and their interaction and reflection in different art forms. The exhibition of Latvian artists will consider painting in the age of digital image expansion. Each artist will reflect on the theme through the lens of their unique experiences, techniques, and perspectives. At Artefora, Ivanovs will exhibit a small series of paintings about painters who are masters of a unique visual language. Ritums engages in a virtual dialogue with these artists, so his series Palettes is painted on pallets of dried up paint, which transform into canvases.
Founded in 2021, Artefora (Centro per l'Arte Contemporanea) aims to promote contemporary art within various scientific and humanistic disciplines to contribute to the cultural growth and environmental sustainability of the territory. Artefora fosters international collaboration among artistic and cultural organisations by organising projects, exhibitions and workshops that engage with nature and the surrounding landscape. Artefora organises international art projects and residencies in collaboration with institutions and businesses, helping to develop a wide range of cultural circuits for the exchange of knowledge and expertise.
The project's curator and artist, Ernesto Morales, was born in Uruguay and began his artistic career in Buenos Aires, where he lived until 2006, before moving to Europe. Over the last twenty years, his artistic explorations have led to exhibitions in international museums and galleries in Europe, the Americas, and Southeast Asia. Morales' artistic research, based on studies in literature, philosophy, and science, focuses on themes related to transformation and natural change. Artefora is located in a late 19th century farmhouse located in the Unesco World Heritage area, in the heart of the Langhe, in the municipality of Castiglione Tinella in Piedmont. The complex has over 700 square meters of spaces adapted to exhibition needs.
Opening on 21 June at 6PM (Via Valle Bera 16 (12053), Castiglione Tinella, CN, Italy). More info: Artefora and Ernesto Morales websites
